I finished reading Promised Neverland recently (it just ended), and they directly reference Covid-19 and the pandemic. It wouldn't surprise me if Yana references a pandemic that's closer to the Victorian timeline (Bubonic plague or cholera?) in the same way. Maybe it'll be an actual plot device since the POI is supposedly a nurse.
