Wow the last two chapters were painful to read. That's google translate and clearly nothing else, some parts make absolutely no sense, I can't even guess the original lines sometimes.

My cat gets depressed when we leave the house for a long period of time (he stop eating and stay put in a corner where he usually never go)
He understands we are gonna leave for a long period of time when we prepare suitcases (he try to sleep in them, wait at the door and stand in front of the car's wheels.) anyone with an affectionate cat had to deal with him trying to stop you from going away for holidays.
And he do sulk for a few days when we come back (he stays very close to us but look in another direction and if we try to pet him or get close to him he moves just enough to be out of reach.)
He also know when it's time to eat. For a few days after DST he's late or early because he come at the usual hour which changed.
For that to happen he need a sense of time. He probably don't understand the concept of days like "yesterday" and "tomorrow" but it doesn't mean he don't understand time passing by.
So... It's a new kind of torture ?

I'm so grateful they posted the whole flashback all at once. Flashbacks are never that interesting to me, I always end up dropping the story when I'm stuck waiting chapter by chapter.
