I think more than half of it was because the MC literally saved his own life with his wit. The way he reacted to receiving their "goods", how composed he was, how he refused the check as if he had a premonition (which he kinda has lol)...That built up the ML's intrigue and I think the MC and ML had that sensual interaction where the MC just tried to remove the dark matter/energy thing from him and it was seen as the MC coming on to him (I assume the ML was interested but didn't want to make the first move and that instance made him decide to reciprocate what he perceived as a sexual action)
