this is just what i rmbr but ill edit if there’s anything mistakes.
so basically the whole plot from s1-s2 starts off with eunjae and san’s story. eunjae is technically dead meaning his soul is meant to be reaped and then he meets san, who is a goblin working under geumsun. (such a big time skip but it’s just abt san and eunjae’s relationship growing as they try to fight off eunjae’s impending death from hwan) san then later saves him from that scary looking creature hwan near the end of s2 and beginning of s3. san had to get hwan to possess his body so that geumsun could trap him and reaper 704 could kill him with his blood. however as a result of casting away hwan and letting the ghost possess him, he ended up losing his memories! boooo for angst!!! then san has to be reincarnated and lose his memories of eunjae. eunjae gets the option to either forget his memories of san or live on with them, he chooses to live on with memories of san without knowing whether or not san will be reincarnated. another boooo for angst
in s3, it’s about geumsun and reaper 704. 704 (known as yoonwi in his prev life) has been dealing with spirits his whole life bc he wanted to protect his brother, euneon (who is eunjae, pre-reincarnation). geumsun is borned out of a heirloom specifically out of hoseung’s family heirloom (san’s prev life, before he became a goblin). san and 704 knew each other in their prev life as they were friends. then geumsun swears to protect 704 from the ghosts and monsters.
to recap that recap: geumsun, a goblin. san who is also hoseung in his prev life hunted down monsters and ghosts. 704 who is yoonwi, son of a lord. eunjae who is euneon, yoonwi’s brother and son of a lord.
(another time skip bc it’s abt geumsun and yoonwi’s relationship developing) later on in s3, they find out hwan is using euneon through a deal they had (eunjae). hwan was like “im gonna kill yoonwi” and euneon was like “no how abt you use me” in order to protect his brother. so yoonwi (704), geumsun, hoseung (san) try to hunt down hwan. hwan ends up possessing euneon and injuring yoonwi and euneon in the process. geumsun tries to protect yoonwi ends up also getting injured. hoseung manages to attack hwan and injure him but hwan ends up escaping. but in the end EVERYONE DIED but hoseung in their prev life DAMN YOU HWAN!!!
then near the end of s3, yama (king of the afterworld) brings them to the afterworld. geumsun has retained his memory bc he’s a goblin who technically works for yama. however yoonwi did not and has a lot of karmic debt bc of his brother who decided to deal with a monster (booo hwan). yoonwi ends up trialing to be a reaper (basically if you become a reaper you’re under contract to work in the afterworld or under yama until your karmic debt is paid off) and yoonwi decided to become a reaper so he could pay off his and his brother’s debt to save him. but that ends up pausing euneon’s reincarnation for a while (bc he did a very bad thing being buddy buddy with hwan). so yoonwi becomes 704. however when geumsun meets 704 (who has no recollection of his past memories as yoonwi BOOO ANGST), geumsun makes a deal with yama. the deal is to help yama seal away hwan in exchange for 704 to get access to his prev life (basically his trial records bc geumsun thought if 704 knew abt his life before, then he would rmbr geumsun and come back to him). however its revealed that in the trial records of 704, there’s no mention of geumsun so basically 704 has NO CLUE that geumsun and him were lovers WTF ALL THAT ANGST FOR NOTHING???????
hoseung ends up making a deal with yama to become a goblin or something but he ends up forgetting his memories of his past life to work under geumsun. and then we do another time skip to the future after the gang has locked away that bitch hwan for good (pls for good i can’t handle it anymore)
s3 ends with eunjae meeting san’s reincarnated self (which im pretty sure he’s human now). then we see how 704 took all the karmic debt from euneon and then euneon is reincarnated into eunjae.
this is such a shitty recap so if there’s plot holes ummmmm im sorry i tried to rmbr as much as i could but there’s so much lore….

Did you manage to figure out why has Yama been going after 704 ? It looks like he was doing it intentionally to piss off Geumsung...but why ??
My guess is theres no reason and the author just wanted to add tension to the story but i didnt read it all so maybe i missdd the explanation
lowkey in the beginning i thought yama, geumsun, and 704 had some sort of poly thing but i think mainly bc in 704’s previous life hwan was drawn towards him and yama wanted to lock up hwan so he basically was using 704. geumsun is just a really protective person (bc of his goblin characteristics) so he didn’t rly like how yama was using 704 to capture hwan. yama is a rlly complex character idk what his other motives were besides wanting to capture hwan

But that doesnt explain why Yama acted in a certai. way with 704. Like when Yama pushed 704 into his bad (as if he was gonna do something) and also was commdnting on Geumsun's mark on 704's neck. Even the other reaper/goblin was jealous as far as i remember

he does in ch 110 the s3 finale eunjae and 704 have a talk how it must be hard for eunjae to see san again bc san doesn’t rmbr eunjae. i think in ch 111 eunjae was trying to conceal his feelings (bc you can’t rlly be like “omg i know you” to a guy who doesn’t rmbr you at all) so i can see the confusion that eunjae doesn’t rmbr san but he does just not trying to show it i believe.
imo yama just does what he wants but i did reread some early chapters specifically ch 28-29 where yama advances towards 704 and geumsun gets jealous and then there’s some intense poly thing happening but then later on yama tells geumsun not to drink anymore reaper blood (or he could be just saying not to drink 704’s blood). he rlly is a confusing character bc idk if he wants geumsun or 704 or both maybe!
was is specifically mentioned than hooseung is San in his previous life?
Because hooseung is definetly eunjae’s dog who died due to hwan messing up eunjae’s life in order to maximize his yin energy. I can imagine San and hooseung having the same ancestors though, but not San being actually him - since the whole point was about Hwan NOT knowing San AT ALL (so he’d possess san. it was all part of the plan yama and geumsun have planned out up capture Hwan. Which is also why San is even a “goblin” since he was basically sacrificed by geumsun.)

Yama has shown interest in yoonwi since he believes yoonwi was part of the prophecy. Also because yoonwi was really good with his bow + he was close with hooseung. Thinking about it, everything kinda plays and folds around yoonwi (like he’s the real MC)
It was never really disclosed why Yama has been so interested in 704 but as you said, it definitely adds tension as well - I think it’s also because he likes to mess with geumsun since he’s basically his son and he keeps disrespecting him lmao but there must be a real reason behind it
It was definitely 704 that Yama was after based on chapter 49 and 60.
And 48 Yama sees Geumsun's mark on 704's neck and sees it as some kind of challenge. And then pounce on 704 as if he was gonna do more but doesnt.
And in 60, he goes over 704 in a position that makes it look like he is possessive of 704 and calls 704 "my reaper".
Authors often do that, built up tension here and there but then leave it as loose ends. Theres still a possibility we do get some context on this but my bet is we wont.
