This is a thankfully short story that's an average attempt at writing an edgy psychological comic. The issues here are that a lot of things that happen just don't make sense or are not justified/set-up by the plot. Plus some questionable art choices.

Nothing at all is done with Ace being a football guy. It says he's a QB but it shows him running with the ball in like one panel (normally you'd show him in the pocket ready to pass/throw), so maybe he's a running back or wide receiver instead? Either way, it seems little effort is made by the author to understand anything about the sport one of their leads plays.

Meanwhile Colin is called a loser but is good looking despite glasses (like, every other character including the gf is drawn much uglier) and Colin gets good grades so it doesn't make a lot of sense why anyone would call him a loser aside from jealousy. Idk.

When people say "cheating", are they referring to Ace going on dates with the gf? Or are they referring to the locker room blowjob scene? I can't figure it out. If Ace basically MAKES Colin do it, is it really cheating? If Ace doesn't actually do anything with his gf and can't stand being with her and Colin knows about it from the beginning, is it really cheating? I'm not sure what it is people are referring to with this.

Anyway.

Is his name Colin because it sounds like and is spelled like Colon? May as well call them Ace Ramrod and Colon McButthole.

Let's start with the art. I have to say, the character designs for the two leads are fine. They both are clearly hot/attractive. Someone even says that Ace was only put on the football team because he's hot and people want to look at him, not because he has any skills. LOL. Although even this fucboi seems to get really good grades, since he was #2 only behind Colin. However, the artist's ability to draw these two consistently is sketchy at best. And all the other characters in the story, including the gf are drawn much uglier, presumably by choice. And I'm just gonna say it, the dicks are weird. Fat, stumpy, with a wide mushroom cap on the end. It's like something AI would come up with after only being described what a d!ck looks like.

This story does not have a main character. From the start, we have no one's perspective and just kind of hear students talking about the two leads. Then we take Ace's perspective for a little bit, and then Colin's at some point. As readers we get behind Ace defending Colin early on, then Colin after Ace starts being kind of a pr!ck to him. Then at some point the audience is like well, they're both jerks. It's really hard to have a story people like if you don't clearly define a main character and make them sympathetic. This works against the story from the get-go.

Meanwhile, Colin ever assuming Ace would be interested in him regardless of anything Colin did is a bit of a stretch. Not only is Ace hetero-coded from the beginning, the whole point of the plot is that he's a selfish ahole fucboi that uses and tosses away women. The plan is stupid because there's no indication Ace would ever be interested in another dude. This would only work in BL-crazyworld where everyone is gay or bi.

The druggie subplot was a completely out of nowhere deus ex machina to awkwardly force a power shift between the two leads and was not set-up at all. Ace's justification for doing the drugs works against the plot as well since it would make more sense for him to dive in excitedly rather than being hesitant. I'm not even sure why Colin pulled away given he was in it for the revenge/money not because he was ever necessarily interested in Ace. This whole section falls on its face and needs a rewrite.

Lastly, there isn't really any wrap-up at the end of this story. Colin does an "ah HA! you've been punked!" and then ... just decides he's fine to continue this relationship/sexual dynamic with Ace? Ace doesn't seem to care AT ALL that this whole thing was a setup to take him down. And if Colin continues his relationship with Ace then ... I'm sorry, but the revenge was not had at all. It's that girl who was actually punked. ╮( ̄▽ ̄"")╭

This comic is a very typical specimen of its type. The main character is too nice for his own good, and both love interests suck. Although Dojin sucks worse. This reminds me of "Love On Hold" aka "Why Are You So Kind To Everyone Except Me?"; it's like a shorter version of that same story. Ofc the top in that story has even more issues than Dojin here.

This is a perfectly readable story despite issues. It's pretty short, the pace is good, and the art's fine I guess even though the character designs for the two leads, especially Dojin, fall short.

So, both Baek Ha and that girl can tell these two idiots like each other. Baek Ha goes for it anyway, which, you know, it's not like they were dating or anything. He's kinda manipulative trying to wedge himself into Yunwoo's life at every opportunity. But he does completely back off and give up once the two leads finally hook up. I feel like he's a lot more mature about the whole thing.

Dojin, meanwhile, actively tries to control and prevent mc from interacting with his one other friend. Even when they're dating later, he doesn't seem to trust Yunwoo to defend their relationship against Baek Ha. I will never understand why comics like this try to make it seem like people think characters like mean Dojin are "nice" and yet actual nice guy Yunwoo has no friends for some reason even though in reality Yunwoo's the type that everyone would be friendly with. People would only hang around Dojin to mooch off his coolness factor (and normally money too, but in this case Dojin's family isn't rich), even though I don't find him that cool, esp compared to Baek Ha. And Baek Ha is way hotter, I dunno why the girls aren't falling all over themselves over him instead of ugly Dojin. Bleh.

Also, after Yunwoo's confession, there really should've been more separation. Either Dojin rejects him outright and they spend time apart and then Dojin goes crazy when he realizes his other half is missing. Or, Dojin asks for time like he did, and mc should've said they should spend some time apart and have him pull away, causing Dojin to go even more crazy with jealousy over mc exclusively hanging out with Baek Ha (and, it should be, other people that mc should've been friends with).

Normally in a story like this, where mc has no friends other than the ml, it would've been Dojin actively preventing people from associating with mc, but I guess there wasn't enough time for that here, ha.

Anyway, it's fine, worth reading. Definitely doesn't overstay its welcome or drag in any way. Just needed a little more umph to make this a more interesting and less typical story.

I didn't particularly love this comic, but Dojin salvaged it for me by being the best character. He gives his brother Dowon crap constantly when they're around each other, he took responsibility and did what he had to do when he was young, he's a good son to his and Dowon's mom, and he bails everyone out of all the trouble they're in constantly. He also has the far superior character design of the two brothers, and generally of everyone in the comic. He shuts grandpa down abruptly with a nonchalant and matter-of-fact declaration. And, he's the source of some of the best comedy in the comic.

Holy hell, Shin looks hot af as a cop too. ( ´ཀ` )

I love this comic so much. While they do bone a lot, the author never loses track of the actual plot going on, which makes me so happy.

Read chapters 1-37.5 here and then jump over to the Triple Crown comic and start reading at chapter 1 there to the end.

King's Maker is non-R and comprises 1 season, chapters 1-37.5.

King's Maker Triple Crown is the R-rated follow-up and comprises 3 seasons, 1-3. I don't know why they're labeled 2, 2, and 3 here. Anyway, don't read Triple Crown seasons 1-3 here; instead, after reading chapters 1-37.5 here, then switch to the other comic page for Triple Crown and start at chapter 1 there (it picks up after ch37). The mature scenes will be intact on that page.

They are getting close to the final chapter on the Triple Crown mature page (TC 141 = censored 123, so we have something around 4-10 chapters to go for the mature version end of main TC season 3 story, depending on how much sex scene chapters were cut for the finale of TC s3)

TachibanaChiharu February 23, 2025 5:09 am

Where do I even begin? The first 25 chapters or so of this comic are the most boring, paint-by-numbers, "I've read this 3 other times in 3 other comics" sort of plot/premise with stereotypical leads that I almost gave up on it before the comic just completely jumps the shark.

But then at this point, we start getting some insight into the backstories of the characters, the introduction of a major side character with so much mystery surrounding him and his past relationships with the other characters, that the whole plot just breaks loose. The tension ratchets up to 11, the pace picks up and suddenly you're wondering who is what and if you misread/misinterpreted all of the previous chapters with backstory between the leads. You start to question if any of these guys can be called a reliable narrator or not, including Sodam.

Both of the love interests act like total aholes to the main character at various times, a lot of the lazy, paint-by-numbers aspect of the first 1/3 of the comic is suddenly put into a different light and you realize that there was a reason things happened that way. You go back and forth between hating/liking each love interest and at points hating both of them and then wondering if it wouldn't just be better for Sodam to just go it alone and let these two psychos burn themselves to the ground.

I would say if you can manage to get to the halfway point of the story and it hasn't pulled you in by then, you'll probably never like it, but it is also a lot to ask of a reader to get through nearly half of the story before it 'gets good'.

Anyway, I didn't particularly love this comic but it was interesting enough after a certain point that I definitely wouldn't call it bad. You can tell the author did a lot planning for this story because there are many things set up early on that you totally don't recognize as a setup until the end of the story. And honestly most gripes that a reader might have were addressed by the author at least somewhere (several were addressed inadequately IMO, but they were at least acknowledged and addressed). In the end I consider this a 3.5/5, which isn't a great rating, but I am still glad I read this because it certainly gave my brain a lot to think about by the end.

    Yaoifandom February 24, 2025 3:48 pm

I totally agree on this. I would love to watch the main love interest to learn more about BDSM and maybe that twisted mind of his is a sign of being kind of a Dom or smth. It bothered him this much and we never learn to know how he actually copes with it at the end.

BTW, did we ever learn what his name is?

    Lizabe11_Eg February 24, 2025 4:32 pm

you encapsulated all my thoughts on this perfectly, even our rating is the same ong

TachibanaChiharu January 4, 2025 4:31 pm

The plot is a bit messy with the weird, seemingly unnecessary superpowers stuff, but man, the characters are spot-on and perfect. the older uke acts like a mature adult, there's no screaming, sobbing, and running away in the streets. the younger seme acts much more immature and goofy but sincere.

i don't think this story was intended to be a comedy but reflecting back upon what i just read, i find myself chuckling about it. certainly, some of their interactions and the seme's reactions are pretty funny. this really boils down to an out-of-control misunderstanding between the two, but the seme can't fix it/clarify it because of the power dynamic between them (boss/employee) without risk of getting fired.

I wish the rating wasn't so low, since it feels like people will pass it by without even considering it. but it's a quick/brisk read, and only a handful of chapters. Definitely worth a read.

Cirrus full-on red-eye unhinged.
Dongsik getting the total ass-beating he deserved, even if this particular situation was not Dongsik's fault. Cirrus proving that fear of him is not unfounded. Implication that Chan-Il is next in line for an ass-beating.

I don't know who is really in the wrong here, tbh. Cirrus broke trust with Skylar, yes, prior to them dating, and never admitted it. Trust is the key to successful relationships. However, the infraction Cirrus committed was really minor IMO. It happened before they were dating, and let's be honest, Chan-Il was never going to date Skylar. Cirrus didn't force Chan-Il and his cousin to like each other when they were introduced. He just enabled their meeting (for selfish reasons). It was really an inevitable situation and Cirrus just accelerated it happening. Skylar suffered under an unrequited situation for a shorter time due to Cirrus's interference. Is this a blessing? Or, should it be Skylar's choice to suffer this situation for as long as he can tolerate it? Probably. But because this is so questionable, it doesn't really seem hard to forgive. I feel like this is blown way out of proportion for the offense committed.

Anyway, there is an outside possibility that Chan-Il might be bisexual, but it's also been shown that Chan-Il is just plain nice to everyone. I once thought we'd end up with a love triangle where Chan-Il was actually after Cirrus (but didn't think Cirrus would humor him) so dated his similar-appearance female cousin instead. But then Chan-Il got all bent out of shape at Cirrus and his cousin being affectionate. I'm not really sure where Chan-Il's true stance is yet, but it doesn't seem to be in Skylar's direction as far as I can tell.

What a disproportionally aggressive response for a total speculation topic. Grow up. Not everything in life is black and white. Not everyone knows what they want when they're in high school, or even as adults. Authors intentionally leave things ambiguous so they can take multiple paths with the story and to get readers talking about what may happen. Try using your eyeballs or maybe graduating high school next time.
