I remember reading this manga some 10 years ago, being a teenager (I was 17). Self-harm was much “popular” back then (or should I say more occurrent), with the emo thing being trendy as a lifestyle among teenagers and everything. One particular scene that edged into my head is when the seme returns home from the farm work, he sees his lover smiling and waving from the windows. It’s just the epitome of that normal, content family life that both of them had never known of.
To me, Cut is still one of the best love stories ever written, and I hope more people will read this.
Shocking. 6.8 for an est em’s manga? Even though this is not her best work ever, just the A E S T H E T I C S side of it is already enough for a given 8.0. Her works are some of the most poetic BL manga I have ever read.
And that trash I read last night scored a sweet 9.0. Yeah, I’m bitter. The audience here are spoiled by the instant-ramen BL stories full of plot holes like a minefield and stupid cliche characters and quick steamy sex they don’t even know what’s good anymore.
Btw, I can relate so much to the “only drink in front of me” thing lolol the first time I hang out with my current gf, she was a bit drunk and curled up on another girl’s lap (yes I know) acting all cutesy lmao the next time she’s was drunk crying talking about stuff I couldn’t make sense of. Took me 3 hours to calm her down and got her to sleep. After we became a couple I immediately told her to stop drinking in the presence of anyone else but me ( ̄∇ ̄")
......................How did this poor manga score a 9.0 and other underrated gems got below 9
I do like the original idea and how relatable the MC is (I’m the laziest person in Earth lol), but that alpha is soooooooo cringey and stereotyped. Good idea aside, this is an example of poor execution and story telling, which is kinda unfortunate because this could have been done much better with more comedy elements. You guys should really up your standard.
I have never seen a doctor that free and immature lol... “you are the only one I want to treat” so you are abandoning all other patients of yours and push the workload onto your colleagues who are also buried in their own work? Just because you(r parents) are rich and no one dares to defy you? What??????
Maybe because I come from a family of doctors and I have seen them working tirelessly for their patients, his attitude just set me off lmao
Lol at the downvotes. I get it, he’s a saint compared to the boyfriend, he treats the MC well, but let’s face it, he’s a horrible doctor. Imagine if you are dying from an incurable disease, and the doctor in charge of you who knows everything about your history suddenly disappears. Now you are pushed to another overworked and bitter doctor who doesn’t have time to give you the care you require. What a messed up situation.
Btw, someone gotta tell me where he works because it’s the most lenient place ever. I mean... he literally left during work time to drive a patient home, then just took a holiday (paid or unpaid) with such a short notice (1 day??). My boss would fire me on the spot if I did that lmao
I wish the author gave him another profession, because doctor is the worst choice if you want your character to run away for love.
I agree with you again. But I guess you can already tell many stuffs are unrealistic and doesn’t make any sense in this story. The plot is a bit poorly written and situations are just being handled in a convenient way 'cause the author had to make him a doctor so that our sick uke would need to meet him on a regular basis without any ulterior motive (as we can already tell the uke's not the type of person to cheat on the seme even if the seme cheats on him) and eventually the doctor would get attached to him during the treatment process and the story would take a slight turn ( ̄∇ ̄")
But it’s kinda uncomfortable how the author draws his mum looking like his younger sister. What’s the harm of adding a few age lines here and there? I can’t understand their choice lol
Why can't her mom looks like that. It's the author choice of expression his/her art. It's not like there are not mom that looks really young for their age. Especially when a lot of asian people look way younger for their age and I'm Asian so I know that too. I have so many women from strangers to my relatively look like they're in their 20s/30s/40s when in fact they much more older. It's a different in culture on how authors perceive things. You may think anime usually have a lot of girls who look like middle school with their height and you think that they're glorify Pedo when in fact i have real friends who are only around 1m50 or even around 1m40. You prob white or black because of how everyone look around you seem normal so when you see someone small you think that type of person is not real in reality when i fact there are A LOT. If you don't believe me then come to Asian school and explore then. There are always a few girls who are very short for their age.''Not that anything is wrong with being short.''
Yo, I’m 100000% Asian. If someone does look that young despite being mother to kids in their 20s, they belong to the very minority and the first thing everyone gonna say when they meet such a person is to compliment on their look. There’s good art and bad art and lazy art, I’m not calling name on the author I’m just saying I don’t understand their choice. Take your assumption anywhere pls. Being Asian doesn’t come with life elixir (I wish it did lmao)
I can’t believe this is author’s first manga. I love how she/he handles all the tenderness and conflicts in their relationship and feelings throughout 10 years. I personally know someone with a 7 year unrequited love, so I know it’s possible. Hayate definitely didn’t plan for that promise to drag on 10 years; he was just feeling sorry and confused towards Takashi, and made that promise as a way of saying sorry for not being able to reciprocate his feeling at the graduation ceremony; he must have thought that Takashi would move on after a year or so. Hayate is selfish and a bit immature at times while Takashi can be hopelessly romantic yet tends to be persimistic; I’m glad that Hayate stood his ground for their relationship and together they make a good couple. I’m thankful to the author for realistic, imperfect characters like these two.
I cried a bit when the colour changed from sepia to purple-ish. Like blooming. Saegye’s life is changing. And I’m scared at the same time because Saegye has pretty much isolated himself from anyone but Jinsol, so that person is now his whole world. A “disaster”, he said. Pretty much foreshadow for something really, really bad. I hope Jinsol is gonna prove that this is not just an experiment for him, but my instinct is screaming the opposite. I’m scared for poor Saegye :(
I also hope that at least eventually, Jinsol will realize how lucky he is to be loved by someone like Saegye, who actually genuinely wants to understand him and be there for him. Somehow though it seems Jinsol's agenda revolves around his family - mother and sister - and Saegye is just means to an end

Do you think it’s a bit too quick to call the painter uke and assume that they will sleep together? Or that he will sleep with *any* man at all?
The painter did lowkey have a wet dream about the lord tho
um, pretty sure the writer is building to the kid sleeping with someone with the wet dreams and the mention of him being a virgin. Virgin ukes are as classic in Yaoi as psychopathic, borderline-violent semes.
The writer could punk as all hard by having an psychopathic, unpredictable seme used to getting what he wants who grows into a better person through his platonic friendship with the uke he threatened and held captive for porn, but somehow I doubt it's going that way...
You both call it a wet dream, but there is no indication that he was even remotely aroused from that particular dream. For me it’s more like a nightmare that is a product from his captive situation and the lustful sex he was forced to witness.
Of course I am fully aware that the chance our painter will remain untouched till the end is almost close to zero; but I believe he is more likely to suffer from rape. Do you call a rape victim uke? I’m just really skeptical that he will ever be in a sort-of consensual relationship with our psycho lord, and for that very reason find it weird that people just jump on that ship at the get go and start calling them “seme-uke”.
Geez, nothing has happened yet. Everything is hypothetical right now. So bashing people for their ship when we don't know how the story will unfold is silly. The uke has not been raped.
And the seme asked him in the dream, "Which of these things aroused you the most?" Very much implying that he was aroused by what he saw. Plus when painting the threesome he jacked off after. Yes, he is aroused by these things.
You're jumping the gun on things. You don't know where the story will go. But boy you already want to attack others for their opinions.
God did I attack anyone? If you take it that way maybe you should stay away from Internet.
Well, I mainly just disagreed with you. You said, "there is no indication he was remotely aroused" despite the seme in the dream saying "Which of these things aroused you the most?" which strongly implies that the painter knows this stuff turns him on at subconscious level. The writer did not just throw that line in there. They are establishing that the kid is aroused by the stuff his paintings are based on . It's something he's likely dealt with even before his captivity. His feelings towards his teacher are also likely more than just platonic.
I think you are wrong. It was very much indicated that he was aroused by that stuff. I do agree though that it is a nightmare as well. He is horrified by the things that aroused him since his teacher/ crush would never approve.
We really don't know where this story will go on the rape thing. So far the only forced part has been the erotic paintings and watching the seme engage in sex with consensual partners. I found in most yaoi stories where there is rape, the rape usually happens early in the story or after a lot of dubcon. This hasn't even done that.
Imagine you are being held captive by a sexually active pervert who thinks everyone wants to sleep with him. You are scared and disgusted by him touching you inappropriately and slurs stuff like “You like this? Are you aroused by this?”.
Are you?
What I mean is, while the dream does sometimes reflect what the dreamer wish for, it also reflects what that person conceived of the environment and objects around them. The lord in his dream can simply be a reflection of that guy in real life. He does seem to be the kind who talks dirty like that, right? The time he was aroused by witnessing them having sex and had a boner, though, that was true indeed but it still can’t be connected to him having any feeling to the lord. Replacing any guy into that scene and he would likely end up with the same reaction.
I am totally open to disagreement and constructive discussion. I am by no mean bashing anyone’s ship or calling names. Everything is only hypothetical at this point, like you said, so my theory is as valid as your theory. If it turns out like what the majority of readers here seem to be expecting, doesn’t mean anyone was wrong.
Um, I think you're reading too much into this. This isn't real life. Dreams in stories are generally just methods for writers to tell things about the character or the plot that they can't tell yet in the story. They're used for foreshadowing.
So arguing about what they mean in real life does not make sense here.
The writer who has to tell a tight story in a few panels. The writer is a talented storyteller, but they are they are throwing in very obvious cues to what they want to say about each character.
The "dream" method is just a way for the writer to convey a subconscious desire in a character, something they are not consciously able to admit yet. Or to foreshadow or tell flashback or things about the plot. They are used with a purpose in storytelling.
I doubt the writer wants to waste half a chapter conveying that. It was Yoon he saw in the dream. The writer is giving a very clear message.
I don't think he has emotional feelings like love to the lord, but that dream was clearly a way by the writer to show that he is aroused by Yoon. He doesn't want to be, but it's there. The dream trick is also a short way to put the two together and keep the reader's attention since it's going to take time in the actual story for the two to get together.
The writer needs to keep readers in engaged. With the dream they can put the two together early in the story without putting them together. It's a promise of where this is leading.
But I am fine to agree to disagree.
