Great, nobles are going to start buying sweet potatoes so the prices are going to skyrocket and then commoners won't be able to afford it anymore

    Sasifras September 7, 2020 6:40 pm

Actually, sweet potatoes are just like potatoes: you only need an eye and they will grow like a weed in the right climate. If commoners are growing them right now, they already have a firm hold on the crop. I found out recently they take up quite a bit of land, though.
(Though my dad planted potatoes this year, we didn't plant them the year previous; I had apparently missed a few digging them up and it was like I had planted them intentionally.)

True but it is mot like there are that many nobles.

Plus an increase in prices means that it would be quite beneficial to producers. If we were to be optimistic, this means the poor who used to grow potatoes will find a newer market to move into and gain a sustainable income selling potatoes for nobles.
.the expensive products would be on the pastries and sweets from triple sweets. Those nobles will probably order from her stores and she can help push forward the market for potatoes and help them all out.

Unless an opportunist decides to take this for granted and develop a potato plantation. But potatoes wouldn't be that expensive considering how easy it is to grow(based on my experience of owning some varieties of potatoes in the back of my house). The poor wouldn't be affected to much by this because I believe they would have this planted in their house as it is easy to grow and can substitute other meals when they are extremely poor or starving.

I used to grow potatoes too...we used to have sweet potatoes but we have another varieties of potatoes where chunks of it grow under one or two stems. Like sometimes one portion of it was the size of an adult's thigh. It is so big and so easy to gow. I have literally those potatoes stems around the borders of my house. Just one stem, was enough for days.

Though recent years not many people eat potatoes. Unfortunately the people in my country does not eat French fries or potatoes based dishes. This caused over production and extremely cheap potatoes. Some were even sold under the productions costs.

I just wish that their is this boom or sudden interest in potatoe like chloe. Because it would help domestic farmers.

I am actually cravung some roasted sweet potatoes right now

Thank you for explaining. It was very informational and I didn't know none of that. I'm glad that it's helpful for commoners because it really got me worried

I live in a weird growing area. Someone a block or two away can grow beefsteak tomatoes while we can only grow cherry tomatoes. My grandma, a thousand miles away, can't grow potatoes because it's too hot where she lives; she's jealous. But she can grow corn, which of course is more popular there. I understand the supply/demand part and am glad to live in a country so vast and diverse. If I want something grown in my country, I don't have a limited selection. We can't grow tropical crops; that's about it.

Our farmers are dumping crops right now. And there are some paid not to grow certain crops before the epidemic. It will be interesting to see how things shift. Most of our crops go to feeding livestock, especially where my grandma lives. I do believe potatoes and corn will remain.
(I'm trying to grow tea. It isn't beneficial in my area so they will be indoor/greenhouse plants. My area is best for mint. I will still try though.)
