It depends. If you like seeing boy x boy porn that doesnt mean your fetishing gays, however it can.

Are you aware this is fictional and isnt the gay ppl youd see in real life? Do you realize gay people arent sex objects? Do you treat real life gays the same way you treat non gays? If you answered yes- you arent fetishing them.

There's people out there that hate anyone that watches anime because a lot anime tends to be overly echi and people get the wrong idea. There are also people that hate twilight fans because twilight is considered a pretty dumb love story by most people. There's also people that hate boy band fans. And people that hate k-pop fans. And the list that goes on and on and on. Every fan group is going to have people that hate on it for some reason and sometimes the group that hates it is rather large because apparently people got nothing better to do.
As long as you aren't overly obsessed or taking the wrong messages from yaoi you're fine. I won't deny that the genre has it's problems *cough*normalizingrape*cough* but it's no reason to purge the whole genre. Though I would suggest that you should be picky about which yaois you read and keep away from anything that contains things a little too taboo or you my find yourself with a couple fetishes that aren't exactly looked kindly upon.

Personally I believe that liking yaoi and loving the couples and the storylines is perfectly fine, however you have to draw the line at some point

For me, I think that once liking yaoi/BL starts to become dangerous or fetish-y is when ppl start to bring their fantasies to real life people, and start to fetishize their gay male friends/acquntainces or just real life people in general. For example, going up to a gay guy and asking “Are you a seme or an uke?? Are you a top or bottom??” is very insensitive and not okay to do as a fujoshi. These are real people and being gay is their real life sexuality. Not just a story trope for them. Being gay has real life issues in the world to this day could come along with problems such as homophobia, not being accepted, etc. It’s not all sunshine and rainbows like a lot of mangas/manhwas portray it as so as fujoshis we have to understand that and respect them.
