Ahhh yes I understand ur confusion. Okay so the prologue is the background story of the main character. So he used to be human and he wa drew crown prince of the XianLe kingdom ( I think I got the name wrong) but basically he ascended to heaven and became an immortal. But something happen and he was banished to the mortal realm(basically human civilization) meaning he became a human again. Then he ascended a second time and it didn’t take very long and he was banished to the mortal realm again. And everyone was scared he might turn evil and have resentment for being banished twice but he didn’t. during this time he had no money and lived poorly and had to collect trash so he became a laughingstock among the humans and gods and no one worship him anymore bc you know in their eyes he’s useless. And then he ascended a third time. Which leads to chapter 1, where we see a broken bell. That bell was broken by the MC’s acension. When he ascended he made a big chaos and destroyed buildings and made that bell almost fall on another diety but that god cut it half. And that lady he’s talking to tells him he has a debt to pay for the damages he caused. And his wealth depends on how much offerings he gets from human and since he’s ascended 3 times and consider a failure everyone forgot about him and don’t worship meaning he’s dirt poor. And so she proposed another method to repay back his debt. There is an issue on Earth and the Enpror can’t see to it right now and if he goes down to earth and fix the problem his debt will be erased completely. And then the story goes on from there. as for the reasons he was banished, those reasons actually holds a deep story behind it and is more complicated than just banished for being useless. If you want to know more, I suggest reading about the characters background on fandom and it’ll make things make more sense. But this story is so beautiful and the MC is so kind and I love him so much

to add on to what the other person commented, the prologue was a quick rundown of how xie lian spent his time before he ascended the third time but dont worry bc it will all be explained later in detail !! you basically just have to undertsand that he was the crown prince of xian le where he was loved by his people (i hope i got the name right oops) then he ascended and became a god but was demoted bc of reasons that will be explained later. he then ascended a second time but only for like a minute before he was demoted and sent back to earth (thats why hes the laughing stock of the three kingdoms - the heavenly realm, earth, and the ghost kingdom). now hes ascended a third time but he caused a lot of destruction bc he literally shook the heavens and thats why hes in debt and has to go on a "mission" for the emperor. bc of his reputation, nobody takes him seriously and nobody wanted to lend him any martial gods to help him. hope this helped and sorry for it being so long oops

Honestly, like he's literally such a beautiful character. And if you read everything, not just this, you get to know that he's harsh and tactical, but very much equally caring and kind.
