It was because the author didn't like the overall design of the settings/characters, such Jonghak being blonde instead of white haired. They do look much better now.

It's just a remake of the original manhwa and not of the story itself. So far, the manhwa has been following novel fairly well minus some missing details here and there due to adaptation limitations. That scene may still happen as long as the writer and artist deem it necessary.
