The father's reasoning is that he might take him back if he keeps in contact with her. But seriously, I know that it's customary (at the time) for nobles to wed their young daughters but he could've still talked to her about it. That one declaration at the dining table (where the brother's MC gives up his chocolate cake to her) is pretty half-assed. She didn't even know what marriage is supposed to be for God's sake. Though it's good that they were able to mend in that family reunion, I think that if the father just talked and explained the marriage to MC that they wouldn't have to be like this.
