I knew LiHuan’s dad would be amazing. LiHuan’s parents were always concerned about him having someone in his life that would love him the way they did. He was so quiet and he was often bullied. I don’t think there is any way that either of his parents would ever try to stop him from following his heart. They love him - and not some role that he is theoretically supposed to play in the family, like Yang Yang’s parents. From the New Years special, I think Yang Yang’s dad comes around though. Hope we get to see it play out.

I think it is funny all this talk about cliches. Lots of people discover that they are gay in college. It is the first time you are out from under the thumb of your parents and their beliefs and get to make your own rules and experiment. I think that is actually pretty realistic. Everyone is always comparing this story to 19 Days, but this story is way more about comedy. I laugh my butt off every time I read it.

I feel like we were totally left hanging when Li Huan was going to talk to his dad in the car. If my tall son is going to come out to his dad, I want to see that conversation because his dad is awesome. Both characters interactions with Li Huan’s dad are like my favorite scenes.
