Long story short. Have you ever heard about those bracelets that give luck and then they broke? It's the same. Taeui gives luck so they (in this story) "can't get hurt/get more things" otherwise Taeui is having bad luck (Ilay it's a good example ahah)
So people wants him for his ability to give luck and prevent bad things to happen.
