i mean penelope herself acknowledge that she doesnt deserve the "affection" ecklis gave her, someone who is truly kind deserves it more she said. its not like their relationship was depicted as healthy in the first place and penelope of course is in the wrong for what she did to him, but you also need to consider that she is in a deadly situation and in her head she thinks of these characters as merely characters of a game not real people (ofc that changed throughout the course of the story). penelope KNOWS and even acts as a villainess, shes never depicted and she never claimed to be a morally perfect person. her main goal has always been to survive and escape.
besides there are characters who did far worse in this story.
She's constantly reminded that they're game characters, she's trying to survive, plus he used her too, both knew it, both were manipulative, and he's an obsessive creep
