Guys I've hated lockmann too but he had his shares of agony and reasons why he had to do that. I've read in a spoiler that it actually had to do with his childhood when his magic was great and he had to separate from his fam to control it. Remember duke phodury from the last banquet? I think it was him who helped lockmann. This made him detached to people i think.
As to why he riles up nunnaly, he knows she too held great magic so he makes her exert and to deliberately make her control it. That was to avoid magic outbursts with the help of miniscule magic exerted from their bouts.
There's a lot more spoiler from novelupdates but if you guys go there, you can totally see why (￣∇￣")
