The "western" names in these manga/manhwa are so weird because of how names are written and created in East Asian languages. All our names' characters have specific meanings to them and putting them together is kind of like the parents' wishes on how the child will grow up. You and someone else can have the same exact name but written completely differently and therefore have different meanings.
Like my name, the first character means sophisticated and the second is graceful. It sounds amazing but my father simply wished for me to be a sophisticated young woman so he can marry me off to a rich family for a sizable dowry. None of that happened and I have as much grace as a wonky pear that can't stay upright.
im from Asia as well, the middle east to be specific, so I totally get what you mean. a bunch of names we have sound so weird in English because of the original origins.
