I think it’s just as simple and straightforward as it is shown.
Jay wanted to get closer to Yohan and become his reason to live. Cuz he liked him a lot but noticed he was suicidal. And when after everything Yohan still refused to call and was trying to just let himself die, Jay decided to be more proactive/ noticed his desire to become his reason to keep living, told the lady to edit that last scene into the script, and decided to have Yohan live with him saying he “owns” him. So Yohan can’t think of ending his life cuz it basically belongs to Jay now.
