When he showed up his formal wife had died and her last wish was to return to the palace. So her half-brother was furious. Which is why he married his son and niece saying that an official wedding would be held when she becomes an adult (15) and kept her in the palace. However, the duke only has one legitimate heir and that's her. So she's both the crown princess and the duke's heir. Meaning she's in the way.

It looks like she went from thigh length to waist length, which is about 2 hand spans. Of course on any shorter length, this would be more dramatic, waist ->shoulder, shoulder -> pixie. It's just math percentages playing with people's heads. Its like how 10-1 doesn't seem dramatic but 2-1 does. Still, visually doesn't change any thing but may make it easier too draw?
