This so fun, I love the trope where mc gets swapped with an animal so much more than being soul swapped with another human (cuz usually the swap turns the mc to be reborn as very feminine or weak or whatever cliche bottom charcteristics or their power, reputation and the like becomes lesser so it becomes disappointing he's no longer all-powerful).
Both "Don't Mess With the Puppy!" and this are def a favorite! Just a human turned into a cute animal and being taken care of by a cool and handsome ML
Now that he turned human, he has definitely replaced Doel's role which is a shame. It would have been pretty interesting and fun that our mc successfully matchmake'd the OG protags together, but this too is good nonetheless! I do hope Doel still has a major plot significance and still appears often.
Also when Doel got introduced I was like "Holy shit that name's so close to my OC! Just add an A at the start and viola"
He becomes a total child in the novel after getting the hang of his human form. He isn't feisty and spends most of his time getting irrationally angry then crying about being scared as soon as he calms down

Unrelated but checking the comments, I read a particularly one and suddenly the situation between mc and ml reminds me of a novel I once read, forgot the title since it was a long time ago but it was basically mc dies in a car accident and his soul was transfered in a hamster and sent back a year before his death and was also picked up and taken care of by the ml
