Am I the only one who sees barely any romance? Although I do agree that Isabelle is a hindrance at times, the point of her is to make Frey(Lucas?) more trusting. That was what he said while fighting against the Drake King. It wasn't resolve or confidence he was missing, it was his trust in the ones he cares for.
p.s. I don't think Isabelle is actually that pretty tho... it keeps saying she is, but I disagree.
