I can't believe I cried twice for this manga and y'all are calling it terrible
Maybe I have terrible taste after all 흫_흫

Are you straight? We're calling it terrible bec it's nothing but bad stereotypes of gay people. It was so promising too, I thought it would be challenging the stereotypes it set up in the beginning but nooo.
Older gay guys being pedos, a girl telling the whole school about another gay guy's story, and kissing him on stage without his consent etc.
At least the art was nice? Lol idk

lol is "are you straight" suppose to be an insult? it's like asking people who like reading yaoi "are you gay?"
i was also kind of put off by the whole school scene by miura too but it's not like she pushed him down, grabbed his head, and kissed him lol
"older gay guys being pedos" do exist, just as "older straight guys beings pedos" do too
we gotta remember this story is set with japanese society and japanese societal norms, it's probably different from western society. what we view as stereotypes in western culture could might as well be reality in japan, who knows
@Amyread it's fine having terrible taste lololol i enjoyed the story too, was it perfect? naw, but it was sure as hell entertaining while it lasted

No, and I'm not sure why you took it that way. I'm asking because as someone who's gay, it's very apparent that this story has straight-up and subtle homophobic traits. Which might not be apparent to you know, someone who's straight. Also, afaik, yaoi's biggest demographic is straight women, not gay men. You're thinking of bara.
They do, pedophilia is something that has no correlation with sexuality. However, a lot of homophobes try to suggest that it's inherently a trait with gay men. The fact that this manga has not only one, but two gay pedos, is an issue. Especially because it seems like the author just decided to make them pedos without actually have that be a part of the plot (like there was no discussion on Mr. Farenheight's pedo cousin, he just randomly decided to make him a pedo).
There are different stereotypes, I agree (like in japan, being a macho guy is the "gay" stereotype) but there's still common stereotypes shared between them.

Just my opinion but I don’t really believe this manga is actual theme is about the struggles of being gay though it’s a huge part of it. This story to me was about the struggles of defining the line between lust and love and how people react to that difference and accept that difference. Jun’s love for Miura was real however he was incapable of being sexually attracted to her. Makoto, still a piece of scum, managed to have s*x with his wife but was unable to love her. Jun at first couldn’t accept the fact that he could love without being sexually attracted to her, he thought it made his love cheap. But eventually he accepted it and although he’s exploring other options right now they still love each other. Makoto continues to hide and instead of accepting that he has pedophilia and seeking help, he instead acts on his urges to hide from the important people in his ecosystem that he has it. Mr.F and his boyfriend both accepted the fact they were gay and loved each other but their society couldn’t accept and eventually they died knowing that, opening up regrets in their wake. I don’t personally view having Makoto and Mr.F’s boyfriend as older people thought Mr.F’s boyfriend was a tad unnecessary. They were the outlooks on two different paths jun could take. Hide it from the world or tell everyone and face the prejudices.

Good point, it's true that it was focused more on different types of loves rather than just the struggle of being gay in a conservative society.
I still have an issue with how it handled a lot of things. Like even if we're to excuse the guys' pedophilia bec that was the main theme of the manga, it shouldn't be left/ not commented on. It's as if the author's saying "oh this is normal for gay relationships" of they don't comment on it.
But yeah, I wasn't sure if Jun and Miura's relationship was supposed to be a take on being gay but having romantic feelings.for the opposite sex bec while it seemed that way, it was either a) not executed well or b) the author couldn't decide and left it as ambiguous.
Also idk I really fucking hated Miura lol and the fact that the author didn't do anything about how problematic her fujoshi tendencies are just rubbed me the wrong way. Like its ok to read yaoi, I read yaoi, nothing wrong with that.
But: reading yaoi does not mean you automatically have an understanding of how gay relationships work. If anything, a lot of yaois can be homophobic with the stereotypes incorporated.
And even moreso important: it does not mean you can fetishze gay men. Or play out your fantasies in real life. Like getting two guys you know to specifically pose in ways that complete your fantasy. Like unless it's your kink and y'all consent to it in sex or whatever, don't look at random guys with those eyes.
This was never commented on as being an issue.
What in the actual fuck did I just read
They replicated the art style nicely BUT WHY
My eyes QmQ
