What if Lewellyn was an heir of an extremely rich and influential family but he’s an illegitimate son so the step-parent sent him to the prison as early as his childhood?
In later chapters, Shav brought books for Lyn to learn how to read, a pen, paper and even a typewriter for him to write (and possibly express emotions [from my understanding] and the way Shav done this is soooo cute)
What if after Shav discarded Lyn, he really worked hard to learn and become civilized using the fairy tale books that Shav left behind (which is why he has a way with his speech, always exaggerated and not straight to the point) and when the fairy tale books did not suffice anymore, he asked for more from the prison and was given law and rights related books since.. well.. prison? xD And as he aged, Lyn realizes how he’s an important figure and fought for his rights and threatened some higher up, which is why he was released.
As for Shav’s memory… Everyone keeps saying he got in an accident, causing an amnesia but what if he was brainwashed instead? Or dissociative amnesia due to trauma and guilt?
(By the way I think Shav started to become cold towards Lyn after they touched/him starting to feel sexual [don’t count me on this one]. They kissed a few times but Shav didn’t react negatively to it)

That really does sound plausible, sort of like the man in the iron mask. (imprisoned twin of Louis XIV) The royal family members responsible would have the means, methods, and motives to do that. As well as have Shavonne mind wiped if he interfered, although unintentionally, in their depraved plans.
I’m at chapter 72… been binging this for hours now. What chapter does the amnesia end?
