The a-hole to ordinary frumpy old-guy ratio in this story very much mirrors my own experiences which is about 8 to 1.
To make matters worse, the fathers are beacons. Of the wrong side. Which still mirrors my experience, so there.

Oh I am waiting for those, eagerly. Like, come on my good wrinkle-owner, let's compare 20 years of hell. If their "back in ma day" doesn't include genuine appreciation for bettering the life of the generations after them (instead of ... envy?) I don't want to hear it.
"We've had it worse than you" is in no way a justification to perpetuate the same horrors over and over.
"My father beat my mother when I was young" - well, my condolences, but if your best plan is to beat your spouse with this reasoning, I got some news for you.
I would love to say " I am done with fathers in stories like these" but obviously, I am not. It's work in progress. But, how liberating it will be to say: I am done with fathers, period.

"I just worked hard without whining" - yeah no, I was there and you DID whine and you exploited everyone around all the while waving your moral superiority. And I was right there when you decided to put the blame on everyone - I mean literally EVERYONE except you - for why you couldn't change, wouldn't change and are not to blame.
But you are to blame. And I do.
On a side note: naturally I am aware that there have to be people who don't fit into my overarching preconceptions. But they are so very little in between, that I am dithering between "that's trauma in second and third generation" and "fuck it, there was something in the water".

Well, since I've been forced to recite bible verses from memory before I learned to read, I do assume I am entitled to have my own little stash of hate towards it. (Which immeasurably pales against my hate towards the people that made my learn those verses under the threat of painful punishment, but still.)
In short: point me in the general direction of someone claiming their superiority with that glorified fairy-tale-book in hand and I can and will be a public menace.
Disclaimer: I can respect another's religion. I lost respect towards religion as a stand-alone entity.

Can't ask for better advertisement, to be honest. But for that matter, when in doubt I'd rather go with canon jesus than fandom jesus (for the same reasons as stated above and so on and so forth)
