It's not much of a time skip. It's like 2-3 months or so. He was just telling Gideon he had his birthday and it wasn't much. But after this episode it should be the start of Xyrus Academy arc. So rest assured. It's still following the novel.
If they're adding scenes maybe they can fix the reunion between author and elf girl (cuz I don't want it to be bad like it originally was)
