So that's the thing, the blond cardinal lackey thought he was helping the church purge the empire of an immoral whore of a woman when he helped set up Shuli's death. He played on the fact that his friend felt that Shuli wasn't good enough to be a member of the family, and he basically let his friend take the fall. He doesn't realize that he's part of the reason the family guard, his friend, has been sentenced to death. Everyone involved in the killing of Shuli had a personal reason to hate her. The cardinal was mad because she didn't want him, the lackies thought she was a whore, the family guard didn't understand that she was protecting her family the best way she could, and her husband's family wanted to take the power away from Jeremy, who they saw as weak, but she stood in their way. The only one who knew exactly what she was doing was Nora, and was the only one that couldn't support her. Not even Jeremy or the other children understood or knew why she did what she did. But that blond piece of shit still thinks they did a good thing and that his friend was just wrongly accused, he hasn't figured out yet that he was being used to kill the one person standing in everyone's way.
