And Sally is good? No she’s not. No one is good in this story. She’s a mistress at the end of the day. Sally is not kind, she’s smart. She’s using her knowledge from previous life. She uses people the same way as Elysee. Both women are manipulative, outsmarting each other. The biggest AH here is the ML (for a duke - he’s completely useless)

And honestly she doesn't even use the knowledge of her previous life as much as FLs of other manhwas do. And she isn't using people, but genuinely care for them. And she is manipulative and outsmart but it is her way of surviving to gain the freedom she wants at the end. Although she suffered a lot in her past life, she still chose to sacrifice herself for the same fate just to save the lady she worked under. It takes a lot guts to do that. We wouldn't be able to elegantly lift our heads and gait confidently while labelled as mistress like the way she is. She really is a respectable women.

I think you need to reconsider how you use the word respectable. Don’t get me wrong, I like the FL. Like I said, she is smart. What I don’t like is people deeming her a perfect or good. No, she’s not. She flawed like the other characters in this story. How is it rude to use the word mistress when she is one? It’s just a word and that’s how she’s labeled in the story as well. Also, we all know how this is gonna end - no matter what she says that she’ll gain her freedom she will still go back to the ML. I’d actually be surprised if she pushed through with leaving him but we all know that’s not gonna happen ╮(￣▽￣)╭

A marriage that wasn't consented to isn't marriage at all, it's a kidnapping. "You can't help a kidnapped person escape! The kidnapper has already tied that person up in their basement, they belong to the kidnapper, you can't take what's theirs now! If the kidnapped lerson has already escaped, then it's okay to help them!" This is what you sound like.

Do you even understand that he literally WOULD BE divorced if he COULD be?? You say "it's okay if he divorces" when the whole premise of this story is that he's TRYING and he CAN'T.

So you're just going to pretend you weren't corrected? Sally doesn't have to be perfect to be a good person. EVERYONE is flawed, that doesn't mean good people don't exist. So yeah, Sally is smart, flawed, AND still inherently a good person. She wants to protect herself in society and having allies helps her, yes. She still also shows that she sincerely cares, both about people she's close with and people she doesn't even know.

She helped the noble ladies in society because she wanted them to be happy with their partners, even though it led to rumours of her being a sex worker. She became princess Theodora's ally despite the fact that Theodora is politically disadvantaged right now, simply because she believes Theodora is a good and just person and the kingdom will be a better place with her in charge.

She defended a random woman on the street from a predatory man, even though he could've retaliated with physical violence. She even showed kindness to Lily, despite the fact that Lily had done nothing but antagonize her, and despite the fact Lily had just embarrassed herself as well, so helping her and confirming the claims that they're "friends" wouldn't help Sally in society at all.

Hell, the only reason she's in this position to begin with is to protect her friend.

It looks like you're so stuck on preconceived notions of wives always being good people and mistresses always being bad people that you fail to even comprehend what the story is telling you. It's not as if Sally's characterization is subtle, you just don't LIKE that the mistress is a good person in this story, so you ignore all evidence of it. But what's the point of even reading it then? The characters are what the author says they are - that's not going to change just because you want it to.

We have a perfect example TODAY for a commonly used word nowadays that is not necessarily used in the correct way, my perfect CORRECT example is VICTIM BLAMING. The people chastising Sally are 100% victim blaming. Since when was it bad to become a mistress FOR a man that was forced into a marriage with his enemy? It's different if the mistress is a homewrecker. There is no home wrecking here. I believe cheating is horrible & being a mistress is horrible if said couple are LEGITIMATE, & THE VICTIM THINKS THEY ARE HAPPY & IN A GOOD RELATIONSHIP. Her being his mistress is not a secret so it's not something that should really be judged upon, I'm trying to think of the words to EXPLAIN HOW OBVIOUS THIS SHOULD BE all I can say is use common sense when you read this.
