I just can't get over the fact that he really thought he ate by pushing the FL away. Like… what exactly was he protecting her from? His entire family, including his dad, likes her. She literally took a hit for him once, she was there during the abuse and still stood by him. And how does he repay her? By treating her like garbage, never thanking her for what she did, and then running around sleeping with a bunch of other women. Yet somehow, we're supposed to believe he’s liked her for a long time?
I do feel for him, what happened with his tutor was definitely messed up. Even if he made the first move, he was still a minor, and the adult should've known better. But let’s be real: everything he did after that was on him. He made those choices, and most of them were just dumb.
Yes, he's a teen, full of hormones, acting out because of the abuse from his father. I get it. But he kept up that behavior well into adulthood or college (not sure of the exact age). And honestly, the only reason he and the FL are even speaking again is because he used sex !again! to reconnect with her. It feels like that’s all he ever thinks about.
To me, he just comes across as shallow. I get why some people defend him, and if you like him, that’s that. But I don’t think people are turned off just because he slept around. It’s more that he lacks real depth or growth as a male lead
Agree with you! Wait, didn’t the ML say that it was the FL who distanced herself first, and that he was still the same as before? But after finding out about their past, it’s clear that it was actually him who pushed her away first. I get that he was abused by his father and felt guilty when FL got hit while protecting him, so he purposely said that to make her stay away, pretending not to know her. Then the ML went into denial about his feelings because he couldn’t believe he’d fall for his childhood friend. But then he tried sleeping with his tutor, got caught, and afterwards it seemed like he turned it into a habit. Honestly, the ML really lacks character. He’s just a jerk. At first I thought he only pretended to sleep around and it was just bad rumors, but turns out he really is trash
It really depends on how the author presents the story to demonstrate the ML progression. The FL also acknowledges later in college that she didn’t understand what he was going through back then with his rebellion + father and thought he was just hanging out with bad friends just cause. You can see in highschool that he has some knowledge of the growing attraction but rejected them as they grew up as childhood friends. I wouldn’t say he really knew he liked her until after they reunited when he was more mature understanding his own feelings. They both made mistakes they regret like her not understanding him more and him pushing her away to protect her cause he thinks he’s dragging her down. By the time he realized how dumb it was to push her away they’ve become so distant from one another it’s hard to reach back out.
I think this is a valid explanation to his character and I completely agree. Although he’s not the perfect green flag dream guy, he’s not too bad either, but he’s nothing special. Hope he starts treating main character well though, and doesn’t revolve their relationship around sex only, we now know he kind of likes her, but he doesn’t really show it with his words and he’s super sexual but I guess with how promiscuous he has been to even now it would be hard to change your colors

So I was looking at the raws and one of the commenters read the novel for spoilers to understand the male lead a bit more. He rebelled a lot because of his father, and apparently an incident happen where the female lead defended him and got hurt in his place during high school era. He feels really bad so he doesn’t want her to get hurt anymore or I guess involved with himself but he loves her, but yes, he did had sex a lot. So he did love her, but one of the comments said it didn’t feel like pure love because he was still very sexually active while in his mind, he loves the female lead only.
I think it’s fine for him to be promiscuous, but it’s one thing to be promiscuous and then claim that you love someone. I guess he is a man after all lol. And I think female lead obviously cared about him during their school year and childhood, but they were going towards different paths and she was very strict so they just kind of slowly separated. He obviously likes her a lot now and now that he also had sex with her. I don’t think he’s gonna do anything funny he’s pretty locked in.
