You have no concept of reality if you think depicting rape in a fictional plot is actually endorsing or NORMALIZING it smfh. I think they were more so worried about the people saying they were desensitized to rape and just kinda brushing over it than the story. They never said cancel the manga or anything they said they didn’t like story for the rape which is a valid opinion because it really is off putting especially when it didn’t seem like it was that type of story at first. The problem is fiction or not rape is still rape and the depiction of it can still be quite traumatic. This was the point they were bringing up because so many people were saying they are desensitized that it’s become an issue especially with literature about lgbt characters it paints a weird picture of gay people and makes them seem predatory(the duke,the kidnappers) and as victims that give in(the mc). Of course you can still read literature and enjoy the content but it’s the romanticization of rape that’s really troubling in a lot of these stories. And the problem with this is it starts to mess with the perception of gay men and they start getting fetishized as a result to this. The person was just trying to bring this up and instead of having a discussion you got upset. Also coming at someone’s mental health is a low blow and very immature for someone saying someone has to grow up. These types of discussions are needed and should be encouraged. And If you know it’s wrong you should be willing to have a conversation about the negatives and positives of a story and any kind of art.

Just by depicting rape in a series about two guys falling in love doesn't mean they're romanticizing it. It's just one of things that happened in their lives, and it's personally more gross that people think any love story involving rape victims is somehow fetishizing rape...jesus, people need to stop connecting fiction with reality.
And HAVING A CONVERSATION ABOUT RAPE SHOULD BE DONE WITH ACTUAL RAPE CASES! Nobody here is supporting the rape jfc. i wasn't trying to say that there are people who dont think rape is wrong, i would *hope* that everyone knows rape is horrible, but i wrote this comment as a response to other comments i saw saying stuff like the rape in this story wasnt that bad and that it was necessary for the relationship between the duke and jace to develop. THATS where the problem lies -with the readers who dont bat an eyelash to it. im not saying the author was wrong for including jace getting raped by the kidnapper, that is a thing that happens and having rape in your stories can be good (when done right). again, the main problem i have is with the readers who downplayed it (i saw comments), and also with the duke raping jace. it was rape. jace didnt want to do it but the duke forced him. that is rape. jace even made the connection *himself* when he said something along the lines of "i just went through this with duke and now it has to happen again?". one of the points i saw was that if i dont like the story, i should stop reading it, but i do like the story. the concept was interesting and the first couple of chapters were entertaining - thats why im still reading it. the problem is that the duke raped jace - that was not necessary AT ALL. im upset at the fact that rape is so prevalent in bl. again, having rape in a story isnt inherently a bad thing, if done right - in most bls, it is not done right. the love interest rapes the mc and thats it. no consequences and the readers get off to it - thats what makes it normalized. and im tired of seeing (bad depictions of) rape so often in manga. if i knew this story would have rape in it, i wouldnt have read it, but it wasnt packaged as that. if this was some gross fetish-y shit with rape readers got off on, id be grossed out and ignore it, but it WASNT. you can say fiction =/= reality all you want, but fiction does have an effect on reality. and also where else are we supposed to have these conversations if not the comment section of a story that depicts rape?? fiction is a great way to start conversations, and this is a necessary one
