i think that it was the literal meaning for his "life" and "death" analogy. Because he is the ruler of the underworld and from what I can imagine, I don't think he could "die". That skeleton is probably a metaphor for what he really feels inside: "dead" and "not alive". While the Phoenix's symbol is about rebirth and "life", his is "death".

I liked how it started but i didnt feel too satisfied how it turned out midway?..i expected more into Nao getting over his 5yr relationship and i thought Yuumas bi friend would have a bigger role?like end up having feelings for him or help him understand the whole sexuality pros and cons kinda thing..its like Nao got over his i wont date straight phase so quickly...
