On top of that, I hate the fact that they give a reason as to WHY everyone are assholes to her. It's almost as if the author is trying to say "oh they're actually not that bad because of this, this and that" like...okay? They're still assholes though?
I hope the author ensures MC doesn't forgive them... or at least, not forget what they've done.

Okay so the original sister, Yvonne I think her name was, returns at some point but apparently she's part of a cult? It's a cult that worships this goddess who's evil and basically wants destruction. Yvonne and her cult are trying to bring this goddess into their world. Penelope turns out to be a really strong Mage who can help take down this goddess, but the goddess cursed Penelope so that everyone around her hates her (this is why everyone treated her so badly). Not only that, but the goddess made Yvonne more desirable to the capture targets (basically brainwashing them), so that's why they start off at 30% affection with her and in the negatives with Penelope.

She probably is related to him, remember his ex's brother was talking to Elise and they were talking about a book in which the main leads after falling in love with each other find out they are siblings and the brother had flashbacks (sorta)
