They tend to make the characters taller in manga and anime. That's why. In real life it would be as you say...... I think... Just my opinion...

According to a quick google search the average hight in Japan is ~1.7m or ~5.7, which makes 1.6m rather small (but it's probably relatively common)

it'll be a romance after all since the title of this manga is LOVESTORY (koimonogatari) and the author already stated that it'll soon be more focused on romance.
