Man...I remember the hate Shin got at the end of the pg version and it makes me sad to see it all over again now. Over one line that we don't even know the full intent/context for.
Also from spoilers I've read about the upcoming season, that's not even the main focus/conflict so far.
Can people chill calling Shin a bitch

Also, this is why I hope every read season 1 of King's Maker and didn't just start with this one. I'm glad the mature version seems to be drawing even more readers because this is an amazing manga and deserves all the attention. But there's so so so much from season 1 that you need to understand the characters and their journey up to this point. I know they were kids back then and there's no smut or whatever but please please please read this from the very beginning.

I know this is BL and we all want the romance and good feels, but I think we shouldn't forget Shin's character and past. He'd been working under a sadistic pedophilic king since he was merely a child, with the threat to his family hanging over his head. He was already naturally smart but he's had to be extremely cautious and calculated since he was young. The kind of emotional and mental damage he must have suffered, it's not surprising if he became emotionally repressed. It took him being tortured to near death and a truth serum just to admit his feelings to HIMSELF. It's going to be a journey still for him to accept those feelings as something positive and not shameful, and finally confess them to Wolfgang.
Also, Shin's dream has always been for a prosperous kingdom under a good, deserving king. That's ALWAYS been his dream, since even before he met Wolfgang, and he's been working and studying and planning for it his whole life. I think one of the reasons he's so afraid of accepting both Wolfgang's feelings and his own is because he is terrified it will someday interfere with the country or Wolfgang's well being. He's scared of Wolfgang choosing him over everything else, and that's why he sees himself as Wolfgang's weakness. We've already seen that Shin is prepared to sacrifice his own life for the sake of the country and Wolfgang. He knows firsthand how much people had suffered under the previous king, he knows that Wolfgang is the king the country needs and deserves to heal them and lead them back into prosperity. This has been his dream that he's been working towards since he was a child, that gave him hope and a goal during those dark days under the previous king. It would kill him inside if all that was ruined because of him and because of his feelings.
But Wolfgang is right, what Shin doesn't understand is that both Wolfgang and the country need Shin to achieve this. Shin seems to severely undervalue himself, but well the title isn't King's MAKER for nothing. That's what I love about this manga. The characters, especially Shin, are very complex with distinct personalities and backstories that drive their actions. The plot is unique and complex as well, there's no one right answer that will solve all their problems. And what I love about Wolfgang is that he gets it, he understands Shin so well. Shin himself said it in season 1, Wolfgang's a keen observer and really sees through you. I trust him to keep fighting for their love and chase away Shin's insecurities. And I know that seems unfair and unbalanced, so I see where the frustration is coming from. I think there's a lot that Shin has to overcome within himself, he has to be the one to break down his own walls. And all we can do is be patient with him as he struggles with himself. I know there's still a long and painful journey ahead of us but I sincerely believe they will get a happy ending, these babies really deserve it.

You summarised sooo well all the reason of why I love King's maker ! (~‾▿‾)~
Honestly, I think I must have read it more than 6 or 8 times and every time, I'm still mesmerized by the way the development of each character is so precise and well though !
I'm really really glad that this mature version is now available, because it seems to bring more people, and I'm so happy to see that this story is getting more attention ! ^^

Shin is a pretty straight forward character, he lives for the successful of the country. Feels like he is a robot at times, strategy strategy and planning more strategies. In term of character development for 80 chpaters, Shin didn't change at all. Yeah he admitted with truth serum, but asking abt a queen takes us back to square one. The more I think abt it, the more frustrating and annoying it is. Wolfgang on the other hand came a long way, he matured as a king and as person. The romance side is from Wolfgang, it hurts to see Shin unintentionally hurting him.
Shins needs to learn and accept that Wolfgang is more important than the county. If he doesn't, there is no happy ending to this story. Do we honestly think Shin will be OK knowing Wolfgang is raming a lady for a heir? Only way for Wolfgang to sleep with someone else if Shin forces it. No good outcome here. My thought is they'll use magic to get a pregnant. Wolfgang understands Shin more than Shin understands himself and I doubt Wolfgang will have a baby with someone else. That just gives Shin ammunition to be even more stubborn and try to remove himself from romance. I want Shin to find the courage to choose personal happiness, I haven't seem him truly truly happy yet.

Deeply impressed by your monster of a comment. Respect the commitment. I so agree with everything you said and might I reiterate how kind and understanding Wolfgang is. Shin will put the country and Wolfgang over his own happiness any day of the week and it hurts. I appreciate the character arc but I can only take so much angst, I'm peacing out after this season waiting for the completion of the series because I cannot handle the suspense.

Same. I'm going to wait out for completion. Shin is 100% in control of himself 100% of the time. I'm waiting for the moment he is jst truly let's go with Wolfgang. This introduction of future woman issue is not something I'm looking forward to either. Wolfgang is too patient with love, if it were me, I would have tied him up and feed the truth serum long tim ago.

I feel like it would have felt less weird if he didn't act so much like a child....even in the temporary adult body he acts like a little kid and it's just very very weird. Sure maybe he's a fox spirit that's hundreds of years old but he seems like he has the mentality of a 5 yr old and looks like one most of the time so I'm very uncomfy.

The previous king was such a whore that there's plenty of kids running around with royal blood, plus the two brothers that escaped. If all they need is a royal heir it doesn't HAVE to be Wolfgang's own child, he can adopt one of the other offspring. Who knows, there might even be another kid out there with golden eyes and golden hair that the previous king hadn't found yet. And all this is only if Wolfgang decides to continue the Goldenleonard tradition. Seeing as how he already broke the tradition of choosing royal bodyguards, I have an inkling he might break this one too.

THIS
There’s many instances in history where kings/emperors would adopt their nephews or distant relatives as heirs, so Wolfgang doesn’t have marry in order to secure the dynasty. Heck, Wolfgang doesn’t seem to approve of the “gold hair gold eye” tradition so I bet he’d choose a relative based on merit than their appearance.

But Shin, for some reason, is very fixed on getting Wolfgang married to a woman. Shin is anything but dumb, he is probably the smartest in that kingdom. And we already know just how much he is in love with Wolfgang. Tbh nobody loves Wolfgang as much as Shin does. He would throw away his own life for him. I really wanna know what exactly is making him do this.
this was great and refreshingly different. it makes sense it was based on a novel bc the characters and plot were well done (even if the bad guy was obvious lol).
i know some people had complaints about the art but i actually liked it. i skimmed snippets of the novels and i enjoyed the webtoon version more, it has a bit of a different vibe. i hope there's more webtoon adaptations of the novel series bc this kind of concept is right up my alley and i really liked the characters, Dex is a gem
Do you know the novel's name and of there is any translation?
Wow! Thanks a Lot for the information!!! Happy New year!!!
