Many don't like the age gap because he's older. Though they don't realize Estelle also grows slower then most since she's mixed blood and they aren't that far apart despite that.

As her personal knight he did watch over her as one plus he did what he could. However, it’s a big age gap. I don’t know exactly how many years, but I’m going to assume like 7 or 9 and that’s kinda creepy if you think of what his actual age may be now. Emiel has to be somewhere in his thirties by now while Estelle is in her late teens and at most her early twenties.
From what I've read in comments it can be 4-5+ years in age gap. Personally I have no issue my age limit is 5 older or younger if I date, but even that is pushing it for me. Anything beyond that I can see where they are coming from it seems a bit strange and can put a lot off. You are seeing a child more or less, with an adult or someone you consider an adult that should be taking care of her - but not having those types of feelings.
