Well, if you are playing various online games, Healers should be protected not because they are weak, but they are the last defence and will make sure to resurect without any hindrance.
But weak? No. In raids, Healers are one of the highest vit and hp next to the Tank and Sordie/Semi-tank. Even in wars, the Healers are very hard to kill.
Except if your lvl is too low or does not have good equips. But if you are as strong and as good equiped as your part mates, in online games you are one of the hardest to kill.
The thing is, Healers don't have many Self-Defense/Suvivival Skills, they are pretty neat in party but are not independent, the way the Write shows in the Story, people valorize Healers a lot but don't know how to manage party so well, that's why the story makes them seem weak

Hmm.. I have been playing different mmorpg for 20 years and Healers have the most survival skills next to Tanks.
Maybe attacks they lack, but shields, buffs, skills for escaping, the healers have that too more than Mages and Archers/long range.
That was the older mmorpg healers, but new mmorpg Healers can survive on their own now and can even Boss hunt solo. Maybe we just play different games. ヾ(☆▽☆)
