I reasoned it out that even though Nanmu wanted to make a family with him and his mom, he never actually got to. That he was with them only for a short while before taken away; so he didn't actually get to raise Pil-Gyum as a dad.
Their relationship makes you envious. I wonder what it's like to be loved like that. How it feels to be treated so during and after pregnancy. That is some true love right there. Something I'll never experience in my life. I kinda want to curl up in a corner now. ╮(⌒;▽;⌒)╭
