As of Vol 9 no, they are not together but remember that Mao Mao is really as close to a female Sherlock as we can get (i.e., not really into relationships and people in general, smart but couldn't care less about knowledge she's not into, etc) and she also understands her position well. Japanese LN is in Vol 4 and I think I bread somewhere that Jinshi confessed but not sure if they are together.
It hasn’t yet occurred in the novel (I am currently reading vol 11) but there is progress. I especially love the last chapter of vol 8 - I keep re-reading it
The fun starts end of vol 3, then end of vol 4, gets even better end of vol 6, and then just keeps going. Apparently I have heard even more development in vol 14 of the light novel, but there isn’t an English translation to that yet - but as far as I know they aren’t officially together even in the original japenese yet - kinda but not quiet either.

Where do u read the LN??
I bought the Kindle versions
But the web novel I think is available for free, but you just need to MTL them. I heard fr other fans that unlike Ascendance of a Bookworm (where LN follows WN closely but with add'l content), the web novel differs fr LN and is more focused on the mysteries than romance
I discovered him via Tasogare Outfocus the first of a 3-part series, and one of my all time favorites. Story was awesome and art was fantastic!

Some empty series (no chapters) have a high rating and some, like this is rated low....why?!
lack of comprehension skills, obviously. all the works of this mangaka is phenomenal, yet they average on 8.5 ratings, while there's many examples on this website of some of the worst mangas raking max ratings lol

about the no chapter ones... the high rating might be the default, which then gets lowered or stays the same as ppl start rating it (or at least that's what i think) or maybe some ppl read it already on some other platform so they rated it here once the manga page was created.
In actuality, we're only getting one chapter every 4-6 weeks (if they continue releasing per week consistently).
So I'm going to step back for a couple of months/years before reading the series .
Artwork is gorgeous though, and not static looking like most webtoons
