I think nobody notice but the 1st couple had a sad ending ( ̄へ ̄)
Sweet yet sad ending (︶︿︶)
Maybe you missed the last four pages of that chapter. The death was a dream. When the seme woke up, the uke repeated what he'd said in the dream and the seme scolded him for it being a bad omen. The uke then goes on to say that because life is so fleeting, he wants to spend all of his time loving the seme. That way when the time comes for them to part, there will be no regrets. IOW, don't live in fear of the future - live and love in the here and now.
Okay, this was really bugging me. So, I went back and didn't just reread the chapter, I picked that thing apart. On the very last page of the chapter is the answer - and the answer is a toss up. In the last few frames of the last page, the uke (Osanari) is drawn very faintly, as if he were ethereal. The question of the "toss up" comes, because if you look closely at the bed, you can see his hair beside the hair of the seme. If the uke was a ghost and the second half of the chapter was a continuation of the seme's nightmare, you would expect that the uke would not be shown in the bed with him. Is this intentional - to indicate the uke is alive? Is it simply a drawing mistake? Hence, the toss up. But I have to admit, I've changed my opinion on the ending of this chapter. I think it is a drawing mistake and the uke is actually dead. Maybe it was the mangaka's intention to leave the ending up to the reader's own imagination. If you like a happy ending, you can view the last "bed scene" as proof that the uke is alive.
Hahahahahaha......thank you so much. I never expect you would do such thing just to clear this topic. Hehehehe (≧∀≦)
I'm really impress, the way you notice the drawing. I'v been re reading this so many times before but did not notice that (● ̄(エ) ̄●)
Like what you said maybe it really was the intention of the mangaka to leave the ending to its readers ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭
So i'm ganna stick with my ending, the sweet yet sad end. ┗( T﹏T )┛
There is no question that this chapter contains a dream sequence. The question is whether it is the first half - when the seme is drunk and mourning the uke, or the second half - where he sees the uke again. *wink*
At first, I thought the first half was the dream - like so many others. After picking the whole chapter apart, I'm pretty well convinced that it was the second half that was the dream. I hate "dead" endings - where a protagonist dies - but I just can't fight the feeling that the way the uke was drawn is a big indicator that this was not a "happy ever after" ending. My poor heart wants Osanari to be alive though. The story was definitely incredible and obviously this mangaka knows how to write compelling charaters and stories, even in a few short chapters.
just read the manga cuz i saw the comment on the main page. I have to disagree, it didn't feel like a sad ending for me and i interpreted it exactly how it was shown: a dream in the first half and reality later. as for the translucent osanai in the end: well, i would say that is it the common way of a manga to end the story in this kinda shining and glittery style, as typical for a happy ending.
Ditto'ing this. When I read that chapter, I felt the feels so fucking hard. The moment Osanari teared up and smiled, I cried with him. I was so attached to these characters goddamn it, you couldn't just kill them out of the blue.
But that's the thing. "Out of the blue." Although the impact was powerful, the death felt very out of place, and only makes sense if it was a dream intended to highlight a point-- of living in the moment. This manga isn't a tragedy, and up until the last, ambiguous chapter, the signs pointed optimistically. It doesn't make sense thematically for the author to build everything up and crash it with a death, unless she plans on focusing on the consequences and what that death actually means.
Your reply was remarkable. Well written and obviously well thought out. Unfortunately, I've read "Lucky-kun". A 12 chapter manga with the best HEA in chapter 11 - then the protagonist dies is chapter 12, the end. No moral, no purpose, just gut-wrenching, sob inducing protagonist death. Most mangaka and writers follow the formula you have described, just not all of them. My heart wants Osanari to be sleeping peacefully beside his seme. My head keeps screaming "Remember Lucky-kun". LOL
Then again, when you stop and think, this kind of thing happens everyday to millions of people. They wake up expecting life to just continue like it did the day before, when "out of the blue" they or someone they love are dead. Perhaps this exact situation happened to the mangaka and their way of coping with it was to draw about it.
Then again, if you consider that "out of the blue" deaths happen everyday to millions - whether their own death or the death of a loved one. Perhaps this mangaka and "Lucky-kun"'s experienced this type of event and drew about it to cope. In life, no one gets out alive. Granted, I see yaoi as a fantasy world devoid of "real life". It is my escape from reality. So, of course I want Osanari to be alive - have I repeated that enough? LOL - but somehow I just can't get my brain to follow my heart.
Heheh, thanks for the complement (●'◡'●)
Well anonymous does have a point (▰˘◡˘▰) of what he/she said. Anyways there is no wrong opinion on this topic ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭. Everyone just has to be imaginative of thier desire ending. As for me, am sticking to what i think is best for both my heart and mind (〜 ̄△ ̄)〜
Several months later, I am back and ALMOST read this manga again, but I just couldn't bring myself to do it. CRAP! Osanai's "death" still affects me this much! LOL I really loved this manga, truly, but I'm still to "sensitive" just yet to read it again. This manga-ka really hit home with their characters for me. The mark of a truly talented manga-ka.
Just reread that story because of your thread and, if it makes you feel any better, I'm pretty sure he didn't actually die.
As I read it, the dream made the seme/boss realize the depths of his feelings, which in turn gave him the push he needed to say "I love you" out loud to his partner.
Any story/art is open to interpretation; however, I truly believe the author was merely using the dream sequence featuring the death as a mechanism to provide the seme motivation to finally say what needed to be said.
Put another way, I believe the story had a happy ending.
I'm glad our conversation encouraged you to read a really great manga. I love your interpretation and the way you voiced your thoughts. Perhaps I could be persuaded to agree with you if I could bring myself to read it again. Even after several months, the "death" of the uke (I can't remember his name correctly - sorry) still makes my heart ache when I consider reading this. LOL Maybe in another month I will have the courage.
