To put it simple, zeref loves natsu because he is his brother & tried many ways to revive him but people won't come back to life & the only way for him to make natsu exist in this world was making him into demon.
Zeref did loved mavis or maybe still love her until now but he was mortified because of him, Mavis died when she was supposed to be immortal like him.
Ankseram curse can change people's mind like having split or two personalities. When his heart couldn't no longer bear the pressure, his dark side took over and will wish for nothing but annahilation.

Why does Rai always use so much lifeforce/Power when facing his enemeis? I mean, he can kill them right away easily but he don't. Is it because he wants to crush their mentality too? When he was fighting the other traitor family leaders too he let them attack him over and over before finishing them. And this old f*cker, in the beginning when he crushed his bones if he had just twisted his neck instead it would have been over with just that and he would have a lot more lifeforce left. When you look at how easily he killed him in the end even when that f*cker had soo much more power than in the beginning it seems like such a waste. Is it just to make us readers hearts break? To make us afraid of losing him?
