Owen was interested in and/or obsessed with Nux, but he died young, so he started to rewind time to interfere repeatedly, though he was unsuccessful each time. He tried different things like imprisoning Nux in a safe/controlled environment, but he still died by suicide. Eventually he rewound like usual, but Nux’s entire existence had been erased, so he had to travel to a different timeline instead of straight backwards. In this timeline Nux acted differently, Owen recognized his feelings as affection, and Owen’s body changed in recognition of his mate. The reason Owen hasn’t rewound yet despite the relationship falling apart is that Nux is still alive and he is afraid that if he went back again, the unique changes in Nux wouldn’t repeat, or he would be permanently erased from existence.
