I thought this story was cute but Hananoi actually has a lot of issues and it just makes the story not so cute anymore. He doesn't let hotaru make any new friends or spend time with them because then he sulks and she feels bad. The same with her family especially on the funeral when she canceled on him and he became very upset and sulky and then she left halfway??? It didn't matter whether they were done with the service or not or if she even knew her gpa well it's still disrespectful.
