yes, i don’t want to dismiss or say ‘it didn't happen’ but a lot of the girls-people i knew in HS who shipped their classmates weren’t even into anime, in fact they thought geeks were gross. i get the ‘girl who shipped guys in hs = fujoshi’ but the ones i and some acquaintances encountered in HS just wanted a gay friend after watching High School Musical, the ‘gay best friend’ trope used to be really popular. what i mean is, some were definitely fujoshi, but many weren’t
