I think the idea is that it will fade gradually, even if she was getting rid of it, so for their ruse the power from it only needs to be dimmed. Tho honestly why his power also removed the mark I don’t know, I thought it would just hide its magic

It’s a slow process. It’s supposed to slowly make your power disappear if you sleep with the wrong person and make your stronger if you do the opposite. The thing is he isn’t going to show off his mark so they will only feel the power inside him without physically checking him.
