
Why is Korea and Japan (since that's what I usually read) obsessed with the ideas of popes and saints. Mostly even resember catholicism.

Well, catholicism is one of the least practiced religions in these countries, in stories they add a little something that gives the audience something to awe about. Catholicism has good mix of exotic symbolism and when it shows up, the religion is mostly there to provide a sense of magic or mystery to the setting of the story, with priests more akin to wizards or mages
