Theory: what if the virus in this manga was overblown by the government in order for elites to gain control over the masses and global economy? With the rumor of the virus turning humans into monsters, the government used fear tactics to further gain compliance and obedience from the masses. Also, with the reduction of population size, was it from the virus? What if it was from the government and global elites killed masses of people with the virus as an excuse. Maybe for the sake of global warming? Or the smaller amount of people, the easier to control and less risk of uprising/revolt?
