It certainly feels refreshing when amidst your yaoi smut fluff binge you encounter a yaoi thats is a genuine exploration of sexuality. Somehow it grounds you to the reality of our struggle for personal identities. Sure theres aspects that are still romantacized, dramatacized and in this manga's case, uncomfortable and heartbreaking, but it feels great to have actual representation in such an oversaturated genre.
