I agree. Paulo offers an illusion of love and Gabriel would never be happy, he would just be a toy. Through all of this Gabriel has resisted Paulo even when he was mentally manipulating him, even when Paulo was attempting to be gentle or sweet, Gabriel didn’t want it. I think people feel empathy for Paulo and because of that they want him and Gabriel to be sexy vampire lovers and live forever but that’s not gonna happen with them because Gabriel doesn’t love him, and he never will.
And this empathy for Paulo I understand and I feel empathy in some ways for him too but having Gabriel isn’t going to save him. Gabriel would just be his toy, not his lover. He’s lived so long and is so full of himself that he doesn’t care about or even think about the feelings of others. He sees something he wants and he just tries to take it without asking or considering and that’s why he will never be happy. He’s a murderer, and a rapist, and a monster and there is no redemption ark to save him at this point.

Like maybe if he was just drinking some blood and leaving the people asleep where they would just forget or if he was only killing just for survival I could see the whole “food chain” defense but he’s not doing either. He has multiple times now just straight up killed to kill, not to eat. Also he was feeding on children, literal sick orphans. No no no. That’s not chill folks. Lol
Oh and the whole food chain thing doesn’t excuse his continued assault and rape on Gabriel. I know rape is often used in yaoi and then just forgotten about and usually I can ignore it too because most of the time the uke ignores it or later states that they did want it and was just embarrassed or whatever yaoi rape troupe loophole is needed but in this case Gabriel never really wanted it, even when he was under thrall he was still conflicted. He still maintains that he didn’t want it. There was no confusion or mistakes on Paulo’s side either, he knew what he was doing was wrong and that Gabriel didn’t want it.
