It's a perverted play on the Monkey King mythology. It's a Buddhist mythology of a Monkey demon who caused a lot of mischief and pissed off the Heavenly King with his antics when the Heavens tried to discipline him. For his punishment, Buddha trapped him in the Five Finger Mountain and told him that he will be trapped for 500 years and when time is up, he will meet a monk who will be on a mission to India to bring some holy scriptures back home. The monk will need his protection against demons. As insurance the Goddess of Mercy gave the monk a crown for the monkey to wear. When the monkey acts out or becomes unmanageable, the monk will recite a sutra that will tighten the crown around his skull until the monk stops reciting.
I thought that the story came from China or on of the other Middle East places not in India
