I don't think it's up to the artist to decide where it end since it's most likely a contract work since the rights to the novel belongs to the publisher.
I mean yeah, but also no- how many times have artists quit due to health (health is impotent), or pregnancy/marriage. Even if they’re under contract they can usually still quit.
