I didn't found the ending rushed. I think it was all clear what would happen like climbing up a hill. And on the top there was the explosion when he went to the hospital.
Everything next to that is solution. Everyone regrets and like miracle wants to do better...

The only good thing out of it is, that now he wants to stand of his own feet and doesn't want to depend on someone else.
