Already knew Ruby was like this, like, twenty chapters ago y'all, stop acting like it's a surprise lmao. I'm more interested in where Aqua's headspace is in all this since he turned around pretty abruptly in this chapter.

    Hatsume_Meguri March 17, 2024 10:54 pm

Yeah we all expected ruby but didn’t expect Aqua to accept it and be ok with it
Thought they were gonna fake kiss like showing they’re backs but no they showed us how they actually kissed

the entire chapter: abuse creates victims who are at risk of overcompensating as a trauma reaction and in turn becoming abusers themselves
readers: Yeah! you tell em!!! abuse is a cycle!!!
Ruby: is a victim of abuse (parental neglect) who is overcompensating (unhealthy attachment to Goro) and having morally/ethically unsound thoughts
readers: ew, the incest is gross and the writer should feel bad

I'm so done with this fandom lmfao

u put it perfectly. the way the author purposely finishes this chapter with that comment makes it pretty clear they're trying to send a message not just through narration, but through the actions and thoughts of the characters themselves.

I'm such a sucker for slice of life, "slow life in a fantasy world" type manga and this is checking all my boxes in manhwa form :')

    tatageuu January 15, 2024 8:26 am

Yess, this type of comic is also my favorite ヾ(❀╹◡╹)ノ~

I've read this series three or four times now, have adored it each and every time, and I have to say that I don't think the ending was rushed at all. I think it ended perfectly, which is to say that its imperfections made it the best possible ending for what the story was trying to tell.

Tolza's death makes some people feel gross and incomplete, think that the writers had to cut a character arc short, but I think that's the point that the series was driving home to the very end. Death is all-encompassing, and you can't control whether you as a person will ever have a fulfilling end, because you may die tomorrow, and what of it? Tolza did the same thing to so many people in the beginning of the series, why would he get a pass just because we had traveled with him for longer? The world doesn't care about your character arc, just like how the world of Distopiary doesn't care that innocent "heroes" have to die for the sake of subjugating the demon lord. It's a very raw, intimate series that doesn't shy away from telling the reader that their needs (the heroes' lives) are unimportant for the sake of the larger story (the world).

It's insane how raw this series is, completely unflinching in its portrayal of catholic guilt. Even something as 'titillating' as a self-care scene can be ripped apart like that at the end. I think this is only the third or fourth series that has made me so viscerally aware of a character's silent trauma that I felt ill myself.

This is how it's building up, but I really hope that, at the end of this series, Priest and Imuri meet each other in the middle. Both of them are touted as pinnacles of their kind (Priest an exorcist and Imuri a demon), but at the end of the day they're both people who deserve to experience both the positives (Imuri) and negatives (Priest) of life.

Honestly, Shirley is the strongest written female lead I've seen in a long time, especially because she actively works beyond the 'sassy OP bullied girl' stereotype. Most people only perceive strength as not letting yourself get beaten down, or fighting against things just because they don't benefit you personally. While that may be one facet of strength, that's still only ONE definition, and a shallow one at that because it's usually a particularly selfish type of revenge porn strength.

Shirley, on the other hand, is strong BECAUSE she's lost so much, but it's because she gives those up knowing how that impacts others around her. She's not weak because she let herself get killed. She's strong because she leaned into that theatrical death, giving Caid a firm hold on the people. Likewise, she's not weak because she's letting the princess get away with things, she's strong because she's willingly giving up her own freedom and her love to make sure that Caid doesn't get himself hurt for her sake (which he undoubtedly will anyways, but regardless).

Okay, so I'm 95% certain that Adele is the Demon King but possibly only half-Seuo. The other 5% is that she's just a normal human with insanely strong holy powers? But too many things hint to her being abnormal for that to make any tonal sense.

There are a lot of references to a "true" god, who is probably the one who rewinded Adele due to a 'mistake' made in the previous life. They're also most likely the one who gave Ray his original prophetic dream of Adele being the Prophet despite her very obviously NOT being the Prophet, which leads me to believe that perhaps the true god is trying to put Adele and Ray together on purpose to mend the relationship between the Dehvas and the Seuos (as their respective leaders); while Ray did fall for Adele in the original timeline, he wasn't close enough to her to set aside her being the Demon King once he found out, and ended things with possibly a lovers suicide, with him killing her and then the rest of the Seuos before killing himself (purely theorizing here, but without any Dehvas to lead and Adele dead, he may not see a reason to continue living even in the original timeline).

In this current timeline, however, things are progressing more towards that love alliance, especially as the walls between Dehva and Seuo are broken down (i.e. acknowledging that even Dehvas can be homicidal maniacs, and Lyte and Riley already being another potential cross-cultural love). The only thing remaining is making sure that all parties make the correct decisions moving forward- here I assume that Duve's original owner is most likely the true god trying to intervene without being too brazen about it. Especially with the way Duve eggs Ray on to be almost blindingly trusting to Adele, it seems like Duve is almost training him for when Adele is revealed to be the Demon King.

    Black Lavender January 11, 2024 6:29 am

Your theory became canon! Adele is the demon king!
